HBO has elected to use a relatively small medium to generate buzz for its new series Big Love. The pay cable network has signed a deal to run ads within 31 podcasts via Podtrac, a startup company which sells ads within 1,300 podcasts and tracks podcast audience size.
Most of the podcasts selected for the buy are produced either once or twice a week
——–
Podtrac’s big HBO promotion started early last week - Big Love, a new series on HBO starring Bill Paxton. Bill plays a polygamist married to three women… I saw him on Regis and Perky. No, Podcheck was not one of the 31 podcasts that got the advertising deal. I think they wanted podcasts that would put out an episode before the new series was cancelled. - Oh SNAP!
Podtrac has placed ads for a HBO’s new show “Big Love” in a record number of 31 targeted podcasts. Big Love, starring Bill Paxton, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloë Sevigny, Ginnifer Goodwin and Harry Dean Stanton, that will air Sundays at 10pm beginning March 12 immediately following Season Six of The Sopranos®.
The podcast advertising campaign includes: All You Can Eat, American Cliché, Art of Gracious Living, Associated Press Celebrity Focus, Baby Time, Better Day, Boomers, Catfish Show, Cinecast, (Cool) Shite on the Web, DineAndVine, DVD Weekly, Entertainment as I See It, Feast of Fools, Gabber Jaw, Goddess Cast, Hollywood Podcast, Keith and the Girl, Left of Center, Makena, Nate and Di, PCN Weekly Film Update Show, Pete and Renee, PK and J Show, RFF Reality TV Podcast, Sloppy Seconds, Success Unwrapped with Heather Vale, Velvet Voice, Water Cooler, Wedding Podcast Network, and Wine for Newbies.

What’s my buy-out price? $175/show
I would do shows every day for that!
============================
The previous two 10-minute episodes were released on the same day, just minutes apart from each other. Note, if you do TWO shows a day, remember that iTunes will only catch one of them. 316 members of the Podcheck audience use iTunes, and I heard from Bruce Murray (of Bruce Murray’s Zedcast) that he had to visit the Podcheck website to get the second show. Bruce also said that he only releases one show a day for that very reason. (show off! sure, he’s limited to one show a day!)

and another one poped up …
The Podriot network is a consortium of dedicated podcasters that are taking over the world one computer at a time. All of our shows are high quality and highly entertaining.
http://www.podriot.com/Interesting to note which are simple affiliations of inidividual podcasters, and which “networks” are also providing administrative support and vehicles for monetization.
- Podcast Outlaws
- Teen Podcaster Network
- The 138’s
- New: Negative Penguin Media, and Podcasting network
- …and many more
And some are in between:
- Sci-Fi Podcast Network
- Tech Podcast Network
- The Podcast Network
- …and more
============================
I resist because the “network” problem is not a technology problem; it is a marketing problem.
When Podcheck does join a network, it will be because it brings some kind of value to Podcheck and ultimately to you, the Podcheck listener. and not just because Podcheck would bring value to the network.
Whatever you decide, it will ultimately need to meet your criteria of “worth-it-ness.” A sweet deal that meets your financial or social standards might never come, but you’ve should make it clear that you are willing to hold out for such a deal. THAT is our power. THAT is what makes us independent.

Video Podcasts have come into the mainstream meme - Saturday Night Live (with Matt Dillon) had a video podcast skit, set in the back of a Bennigans. The lighting was too good.
============================
I’m using Juice Podcast Receiver, too! - Over 1.6 million downloads (Thanks Garth!)

I need a new portable media player. The h10 is giving me grief, and I now have to use the cradle’s audio jack instead of the built-in jack. Looking at the new Toshiba GigBeat S (with video) but doesn’t have a mic or recording capability. Also looking at the LG PMP - it’s way cool, but probably pricey (Lucky-Goldstar… a.k.a. “LG”). I am also holding out hope that the new UMPC - Ultra Mobile PC (Origami) device from Intel and Microsoft will be affordable.

Thanks for filling out our Podtrac Audience Survey - a total of 69 people have completed the survey, and it would be GREAT if another 100 or so could fill it out!
============================
Also othanks to Gary, Jeff, and Mike over at the “Today in Podcasting” show for asking me to be a guest host on show #5.
============================
CORRECTION! It was Charles Hodgson of Podictionary that did the “podfader” audio clip that I played in the last show. It was totally my mistake. The audio file that *someone* sent me was labelled “WordNerds” and, in the midst of my battle with the live show, I completely missed the fact that it was Charles’ voice talking! My humblest apologies!

Regarding going “LIVE” - from Conrad at SpainfulFilms.co.uk
Hi ScottGood to have you back.regarding this live thing, I’m really sick of it. I’ve unsubscribed to three shows now that have gone live because I can’t stand them anymore. The quality of the shows go down - simple as that, in favour of the gimmickry of live broadcasting. Barefoot radio, NLO and the weekend edition of Keith and the girl have just become irritatingly super self conscious.As far as I’m concerned the best shows are those which are well edited.Please don’t go live.
Conrad
