On Digital Media, Episode #67: Old-Media Advertising ComplexLast program description:
In this episode, John Federico (twitter: @gadgetboy) and Ken Gellman (twitter: @kengellman) and Steve Hatch (twitter: @shatch) are joined by special guest Craig Calder (twitter: @ccalder).
- Craig gives us the lowdown on his new job as Chief Marketing Officer (PDF) of Real Time Content.
- Events: John is planning to attend the Conversational Marketing Summit in NYC on June 9th and 10th. Ken is planning to attend the Advertising 2.0 Conference on June 3rd and 4th. Craig will be at the Cannes Festival delivering a workshop on adaptive media.
- John’s Netflix Roku box still hasn’t arrived…and neither has Chia-Lin’s latest “project”. By the time show is released, she should be a mom!
Pictures to follow. - Is Yahoo done? Finished? Cooked? Finis? Where’s the growth opportunity?
- Yahoo = Interruption. Google = Permission.
- How long will the “old fashioned media buy” (and buyer) be the status quo?
- Regardless of currently available data, there’s anecdotal evidence that Q2 interactive advertising will prove to be soft.
- FaceBook will release their API as Open Source Software. John thinks that Open Social should adopt the FaceBook API as the standard and discard the Open Social API.
- AOL has joined the Open Social Coalition
- John’s Netflix Roku box has shipped. We’ll discuss it next week.
- Amazon Unbox will shortly release its streaming video service. Steve has been testing it.
- Gary Vaynerchuk (twitter: @garyvee) is everywhere and a model of what new media producers and content owners can do with flexible licensing and distribution terms
- Jaman and Real Time Content are working together to produce a FaceBook application
